About
Huai-ya Lin’s practice involves text art, including poetry, screenplay, artist book, installation and journalism. With a background in linguistic and literature, she explores the psychological perception and emotion in communication and in language processing and production. The fragile and delicate characteristic of her work reflects the temporality, subtlety and ever-in-flux features in language.
Lin’s interest in language and cognitive science brought her to the fascination of memory, fiction and inter-sensory literary expression. Her works draw upon the long-abandoned memories unearthed by the act of alter-consciousness and/or stream of consciousness. The recollection of past fragments which involves senses such as sound and body memory recreates new narratives collapsing different time and space.
Collaborating with musicians and artists, Huai-ya Lin also looks into biocommunication, discovering the varied means of transmission within nature. While attempting to find meaning in these communications, we find ourselves creating our own stories and materializations. Her projects combine the research-based approach and the sensibility of intimacy
