A Distance of Blue is a collaborative work with Stephanie McGowan discussing the communication of nature. The recent scientific study “Wood Wide Web” shows that trees communicate with each other through the network of fungi, transmitting nutrients and messages. Back in 1960s, Backster’s experiment on biocommunication suggesting plants may possess sensory and emotional experience. Drawn to these ideas, we question the varied means of communication in nature which may not be apparent to human. Our work explores how nature, such as mountains, trees and rocks, talk, how they think of each other, how they remember and feel, especially for the absent ones.
